Get Started & What to Expect

Getting Started

When you initially reach out (whether by email or phone call), most likely you’ll speak with Monica, our owner and wearer of many hats.  She will help you match with one of our available therapists, and either set up a free phone consultation or an intake appointment, depending on your preference.

Prior to your first appointment, we ask that you set up your client portal and review intake paperwork. Doing this ahead of time allows our therapists to use that first session with you to focus more on YOU, and not just crossing the T’s of the paperwork. If you are not able to do the paperwork ahead of time or have any questions about it, we will of course incorporate those into the first session.

At your first session, our therapist will gather more information about you- your life, your history, your symptoms and goals.  He/She will make a preliminary diagnosis based on this information (necessary in order to bill the initial and subsequent sessions to insurance), and address any questions you may have about his/her background, training, or therapeutic approach.

Ongoing Treatment- What to Expect

While we do aim to be as flexible as possible with scheduling the frequency of sessions as we know clients are often juggling a lot of demands on their time, we do highly recommend weekly or biweekly sessions as a starting place.  This enables us to more quickly and effectively get to know you and help you start making progress towards your goals.  As treatment progresses and you start feeling better, we may reduce the frequency of sessions further.

How long does treatment last?  As you might be guessing by now, there is no one answer to this.  Some clients stay with us for a few months, while other clients may work with us for years- the length of our time together all depends on your unique situation and goals.

While our therapists are bringing a lot to the table in this process, the biggest piece of the therapy puzzle is you- your motivation, your time investment, and yourself.  Simply put, if you don’t show up to therapy sessions regularly and ready to do some work, you’re unlikely to see the change you’re hoping for.
